2017 is a special year for Hospice at Home, as it celebrates its 20th Anniversary. Would you like to join hundreds of walkers to raise funds during this celebratory year?

If so, we’d love to welcome you to the Hospice at Home 20 Challenge! It’s a tough challenge covering 20 miles of stunning Lake District scenery, with 10 summits to conquer along the way. There is an option to complete an 11 mile/5 summit route and return transport to Braithwaite Village Institute would be provided from Buttermere for those wishing to do this option.

The event will take place on Saturday 3rd June 2017 and will start and finish at Braithwaite Institute, near Keswick (our Base Camp for the day). We are looking for teams of 4 people to enter, which can be a mix of your family, friends, colleagues and neighbours – all we ask is that participants to be over the age of 16 (under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult), be of reasonable fitness to complete the challenge and be willing to train and fundraise to help local charity, Hospice at Home.

Our day will begin with an early start as registration will open at Braithwaite Village Institute from 6am. A “Grab and Go” breakfast station will be provided to give you an energising boost to start the day.

The walk will begin from Braithwaite Institute and in the morning you will climb the five peaks of Catbells, Maiden Moor, High Spy, Dale Head and Robinson. You will be met at the top of each peak by event marshalls, if you have any queries they are on hand to assist you. You will also be asked to ‘check-in’ at various points on route, which will be advised prior to the event.  A refreshment stop is provided at Buttermere Village Hall, just over 11 miles into the route. Snacks and water will be available here, although each participant is encouraged to bring their own lunch. For those wishing to complete the 11 mile/5 summit option you will finish the route here and be taken back to Braithwaite in a support vehicle. The afternoon will feature the conquering of Whiteless Pike, Wandope, Crag Hill, Sail and Barrow before your triumphant arrival back to Braithwaite Village Institute, to the warm welcome of our event team. Refreshments will also be served.

Congratulations will now be in order as you celebrate the success of completing this fantastic challenge!

As you celebrate your magnificent achievement you can also rejoice in the fact that you have helped to raise an estimated £25,000 for a vital cause which nurses and cares for local people.  Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland provides a free service for patients in the North and East of Cumbria who have a life-limiting or life threatening illness and wish to be cared for at home with all that is loved and familiar around them.  Support is also provided to the patient’s family and loved ones.  The charity must raise £20,028 each week to continue to provide this service.

The Registration fee to take part in this event is £120 per team (£30 per person) and is non-refundable.  This includes:

  • Grab and Go Breakfast station at the start (fruit, light snacks, tea and coffee)
  • Snacks and water at Buttermere Village Hall
  • Refreshments on arrival at the finish line
  • Support en route, including return transport to Braithwaite, if required
  • Fundraising Support
  • A Hospice at Home 20 Challenge t-shirt (which we require you to wear during the challenge)

Each team is asked to use their best endeavours to raise a minimum of £500.00 in sponsorship and a fundraising pack is provided to give various ideas, sponsorship forms etc.  We would encourage everyone to raise as much as possible and make this a top fundraiser for the charity.

If you think this is the challenge for you please call 01768 210719 to request your information pack and entry form. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.  We hope you will be one of our wonderful walkers who will be helping to raise vital funds for Hospice at Home during our special anniversary year!
